Bicycle Tour Guide

The Pedaler Cycling Tours is Victoria’s largest provider of urban bicycle tours. Our shop is located in the Inner Harbour of Victoria at the Huntingdon Manor grounds. The work environment at our funky downtown shop is fast paced with a focus on providing amazing customer service. If you love riding a bicycle, sharing your love of Victoria, and meeting new people, this may be the perfect job for you!


This is a position with part-time hours, applicants must be willing to be on-call for certain days. (However, we can also combine tour guiding with shop work to give more (up to full time) hours). Training is provided so you learn how to lead our carefully designed guided bicycle tours, tour routes are approximately 10-15km in length and vary in duration from 2 – 4 hours. This is a seasonal position; our busy months are from May – October. In addition to full time, we have tours that operate during the day and evening, and weekends, for those looking to compliment a second job.


Responsibilities and Duties:

·        Pre and post tour organization of bikes and guests. Ensure guests have signed waiver forms, and fitted with proper equipment.

·        Safely navigate through the city with small-medium size groups of people;

·        Engage the group at checkpoints and share interesting facts and history about the city and area;

·        Provide a fun and exciting experience for our guests; and

·        Understand the basic functions of a bicycle and troubleshoot any problems that arise.

Qualifications:

·        You must be a competent cyclist. This means you should enjoy the simple pleasure of cruising around town on a bicycle exploring the neighbourhoods, cafes and pubs;

·        You must know, or be willing to learn, about the local history, the craft beer/coffee and café/food scene; cycling routes and pathways in the Greater Victoria area;

·        You must be comfortable leading a group, speaking in front of a group, and possess the flexibility to adapt your style to suit your audience; and

·        You will be required to obtain a general first aid certificate if you do not already have one. This is a one-day course (or two evenings) offered by local service providers.
