Linux Software Developer

Victoria, BC

The High Energy Physics (HEP) Computing Group at the University of Victoria is looking for a junior software developer for our cloud computing projects.


The group has developed a unique cloud computing system that uses private and commercial cloud resources around the world for HTCondor batch jobs.


The ideal candidate has a recent degree in computer science or engineering with expertise in Python programming language, familiarity with network concepts, tools and APIs, RDBMS (SQL and SQLite) and web development (Apache, HTML, JavaScript and CSS). The successful candidate will help our group develop, deploy and maintain systems in the areas of cloud computing, distributed data storage systems, or high‐speed networks. All our systems run on Linux and the ideal candidate has experience in using and maintaining Linux operating systems.

Experience in using Ansible and Github would be an asset.


The position is well suited for an ambitious new graduate who is looking for practical and unique experience prior to transitioning to a career in industry. The duration of the appointment is 1‐2 years with the possibility of an extension subject to funding.
