What you'll be doing... 

We are currently hiring for multiple positions out of this recruitment to support several exciting projects. 

You are a seasoned project manager and will be responsible for the management and delivery of technology projects in accordance with deadlines, budget and complex funding constraints. You will work within all technical program areas to deliver a range of projects; these will include applications to support operations and new technology to support BC Transit’s vision of being our rider’s best transportation solution. 

In addition, you will work with other areas of the business to support the technology component of other corporate projects (for example, facilities renovations requiring technology). Collaboration will be key to success, along with project facilitation, project documentation, communication and change management. 

Specifically, you will have the opportunity to: 

Manage technology projects: develop detailed project plans that include scope, cost, schedule and quality; perform risk analysis, determine resources, oversee communications and records management. Projects you could have an opportunity to be a part of include: 

  • Battery Electric Bus: BC Transit is electrifying its fleet as part of its low carbon program, and mandate to reduce emissions. New electric buses bring new and unique challenges to how we operate, and IT plays a central role in ensuring its success.
  • Electronic Fare Collection: Gone are the days of cash (even though it’s still an option!) - tap to pay with credit card readers or account-based apps are on the horizon, and the technology onboard and behind the scenes is complex and intricate.
  • Finance: As an organization we’re tasked with coordinating the delivery of public transit in over 130 communities across the province. To support this complex business, modernizing finance tools to aid in areas such as capital and operating planning, forecasting and procurement is a major priority. 
  • HR: BC Transit is focused on creating a people first culture, leveraging technology available in the marketplace to increase sophistication, integration and modernization of BC Transit’s human resource tools. 
  • Software Lifecycle: Helping to keep our applications current, upgrades and improvement to BC Transit’s applications such as Hastus, JD Edwards and Trapeze. 
  • Maintain accurate budgetary tracking under a structured and detailed federal funding scenario; provides regular reports and updates on team efforts to project stakeholders while ensuring the accurate recording of progress and time expenditures; manages, tracks and ensures on time payments of invoices. 
  • Plan and schedule project timelines and milestone using appropriate tools; track and communicate milestones and deliverables. 
  • Develop, maintain and manage contract and vendor relationships; ensuring service level agreements are in accordance with contract. 
  • Manage the efforts of external contractors ensuring their work is on schedule and to the designated level of quality and defined standards; takes corrective action to remedy any concerns or issues. 
  • Prepare a variety of status reports and presentations for relevant stakeholders in relation to the planning, implementation and progress of the project(s).


What you'll bring to the table... 

We love lifelong Learners and recommend the following mix of education or certifications to be successful in conjunction with relevant experience: 

  • Post-Secondary degree in computer science, business or engineering with a technology focus, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. 
  • Considerable experience in a related field combined with at least 5 years’ experience leading and managing complex projects. 
  • Experience working within a multi-level stakeholder engagement process 
  • A Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent training is considered an asset for this position.
