Independent Living Resident Services Manager PART TIME (6 hours a day) to work with our Independent Senior Residents.

Shoal is a multi-use seniors and community building located in Sidney, B.C. The Independent Living section is privately owned and consists of 54 independent Senior units. The Resident Services Manager is responsible for this section and is hired by the Independent Living Council. This position reports to the President of the Independent Living council. 

JOB DESCRIPTION

RESIDENT SERVICES MANAGER PERMANENT PART TIME

9:30 – 3:30  Monday - Friday (Negotiable)

This position manages the 54 Independent Living suites: developing relationships and responding to resident’s needs; building a strong, engaged community through activities and social programming; renting suites to qualified tenants; maintaining relationships with other parties within the building.

 

Responsibilities

Market the building through following up on phone calls and emails. Arrange tours and interviews with potential residents and their families, suggest alternatives for those unsuited to SHOAL. Screen phone calls and offer informed assistance to members of the wider community seeking accommodation for loved ones;

Develop and maintain an active waiting list;

Develop and implement an Activity Plan for the Independent Living community to encourage social interaction, physical and mental stimulation and the development of resident relationships. Organize and implement a monthly calendar of events for Independent Living residents;

Encourage residents to retain their independence by being available to support them through the activities of daily life. Maintain an “Open Door” policy to encourage residents to come and talk about their concerns;

Maintain a good, working relationship with the SHOAL Activity Centre and SHOAL Assisted Living staff, to the benefit of all Independent Living residents;

Develop relationships with residents and their families and be available to support them as health and wellness circumstances change;

Attend and report to Section 3 Independent Living strata council meetings to maintain communication with the owners of the Independent Living suites;

Develop a relationship with the Property Manager so that all suite turnovers are processed smoothly and any suite maintenance issues are dealt with in a timely manner;

Maintain the safety, cleanliness and tidiness of the building, working with the Janitor and Property Manager as required;


Skills Needed

Must have experience working with independent seniors; an understanding of the different levels of care, the B.C. Assisted Living Act, Island Health and Home and Community Care and how to access services for Seniors;

First Aid certification;

Recreation Program development and implementation experience and or qualification;

Marketing experience;

Office Management experience;

Experience with finding and training volunteers;

Proven experience working with and successfully maintaining a budget.

Is organized and a self-starter;

Physically able to move couches, chairs, tables and equipment as needed for special events, and day to day activities;

Comfortable with public speaking at events and activities.

 

Reporting Relationship

This position reports to the President of the Independent Living Strata Council.
