GIS Asset Maintenance Technician

CRD - Regional Parks

Summary

The Technician will update the Regional Parks asset registry, infrastructure spatial data, and park specific infrastructure report cards. The position will recommend data schema improvements to enhance and optimize asset lifecycle management and condition assessment tracking. The position will also be responsible to create a series of emergency response maps, customized for each Regional Park, using verified spatial data.


The anticipated length of this term assignment is approximately 4 months.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Reviews, enters and validates maintenance and operational data and asset profiles in infrastructure databases.
  • Works with Park Operations Supervisors to review and update existing lifecycle asset and condition assessment data.
  • Performs asset management data entry, updating the Regional Parks asset registry. 
  • Prepares updates to annual benchmark submissions, including park specific infrastructure report cards, and generates infrastructure lifecycle reports to justify capital upgrades.
  • Consolidates existing maintenance work plans for major asset classes.
  • Conducts data schema changes to enhance maintenance management database tracking.
  • Assists with updating Asset Management Plans for major infrastructure.
  • Creates emergency response map series, customized for each Regional Park, for use by internal staff and in support of the Regional Parks Departmental Operations Centre (DOC).
  • Verifies and validates all spatial data used in emergency response mapping products.
  • Integrates all spatial data updates into the CRD enterprise GIS database.
  • Follows all policies, procedures and standards of the CRD
  • Performs other related duties as required.


Qualifications

  • Technical Diploma in a related discipline from a recognized post-secondary institution, with specific course work in GIS, plus 3 years’  experience with GIS data management and mapping, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a GIS Asset Management environment. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic asset lifecycle and maintenance management principles.
  • Demonstrated understanding of data quality in relation to the management of complex spatial data.
  • Experience with the preparation of complex maps using digital mapping software (ESRI ArcGIS) and updating spatial data in an enterprise GIS system.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and customer service skills are required.
  • Proficiency and experience with database and mapping software (ESRI ArcGIS)spreadsheets (MS Excel), graphic packages (MS PowerPoint, Adobe), Asset Management software and related software.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in the analysis of data and data entry into a database, showing strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of emergency management and response mapping.
  • Demonstrated application of analytical techniques to resolve problems.
  • Ability to evaluate information for its appropriateness and validity in relation to need.
