General Manager: Migration Boutique


Job Description:

Migration Boutique (formerly Lotus) is located in the heart of beautiful downtown Victoria BC. Selling distinctive urban items from up and coming designers, Migration features over 60 local artists. Migration supports both local business and ethical production. Migration is a permanent artisan fair providing the opportunity to find unique gifts handmade by Victoria & Canada's finest designers. Migration has something for everyone! Products include men's, women's, and children's clothing, jewelry, accessories, art, and giftware items.


Position Summary:

Our ideal candidate for General Manager is enthusiastic about implementing systems which allow our team to drive sales and create brand loyalty. The General Manager would be working closely with the owner and staff assisting with overall operations and business aspects of the store; including floor and staff needs, daily sales, customer service, inventory and buying, HR, marketing, events. revenue growth and leadership.The General Manager is the face of our store and our brand, whom must provide exceptional customer service as well as inspiring our team by recruiting and developing top retail talent. The ideal candidate is dedicated to exceeding goals in a team orientated nature, helping to improve upon our company vision and strategies with effective systems.


Education and Experience:

  • A minimum 2 years experience as acting store manager and/or Project Management is required.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Required; Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Proven excellence in customer engagement, talent development, visual presentation and operational business knowledge.
  • Strategic mindset
  • Proven track record for hiring high-performing talent
  • Able to motivate and inspire staff
  • Able to effectively present information, delegate staff, and handle customer needs
  • Proficiency in online retail software
  • Proficiency in retail POS system(s) preferably Lightspeed
  • Sound understanding of financial reports and cash handling
  • Clear understanding of the scope of the retail industry
  • Qualities and Skills:
  • Interested in fashion. Passionate about locally/ethically made products, appreciating our unique business concept
  • Extensive experience in managing and training staff; implementing and allocating staff roles
  • Experienced at multi tasking and using time effectively
  • Experienced at retail systems; including accounting, restocking, scheduling staff and designers, manuals, store and staff policies
  • Able to implement staff contracts, set goals for staff, and evaluate them on a quarterly basis
  • Experience in product ordering (not a requirement)
  • Experience in social media, store marketing (including working with media),and event coordination (fashion shows, markets, festivals)
  • Theft prevention training
  • Skillful with add-on and upselling techniques
  • Able to handle customer concerns and queries in a professional and respectful manner
  • Flexible with availability, as extra time is required for holiday and event seasons
  • Experience in managing payroll submissions, while being accountable to HR / Employment standards
  • Accountabilities:
  • Manage scheduling, while maximizing staff time effectively, adhering to black-out periods for major business activities when all hands must be on deck.
  • Implement and manage Loss Prevention policies and procedures and identify issues and find solutions to reduce shrinkage
  • Maintain an environment open in communication and driving performance, while encouraging staff development
  • Represents the company in a professional and positive manner
  • Hire and maintain a diverse, high-performing store team through skillful interviews, consistent selection processes, development and motivation
  • Provide coaching, mentoring and overall direction and accountability to meet store and company goals
