Field Support Engineer

Quester Tangent (QT) is looking for an Engineering graduate interested in being part of our Customer Experience team. As member of the Customer Experience team, you will provide technical field support to our customers. You will work closely with our customers’ field support engineers to commission, test/validate, and troubleshoot train control, monitoring and passenger information systems.


How you will spend your day:

A significant portion of your time will be spent working with our transit customers’ engineering teams in an on-train environment to:

  • Support commissioning of Train Control and Monitoring Systems (TCMS), as well as Passenger Information System (PIS)
  • Perform post installation check-outs to ensure equipment is properly installed
  • Perform system level integration testing to validate system installation, and confirm proper integration between on-train equipment and systems
  • Work with both our own, and our customers’ engineering team to troubleshoot support issues identified by our customers
  • Deliver training to operations, maintenance and engineering staff at transit authorities on the use and maintenance of our TCMS and PIS systems and components
  • You will be exposed to a diverse set of products and technologies making up TCMS and PIS solutions. 

The position will be adapted to meet the abilities of the successful applicant. The incumbent with significant training and experience will be given the challenges and responsibility to meet their abilities. An intermediate level incumbent will receive the time and mentoring necessary to fully develop into the role. Salary will vary depending on education level and years of experience in the field.


What you will need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent
  • Range of experience with electronic equipment 
  • Detailed knowledge of software usage in Windows and Linux environments
  • Understanding detailed behaviour of communication network protocols such as TCP/IP, Serial Communication in both wired and wireless configurations
  • Strong communication (written and oral)
  • Customer focused attitude, and associated strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Willingness & Ability to travel extensively and act as QT’s representative for integration testing at customer sites in North America and Asia. (when safe to do so)
