Pacific Opera Victoria is seeking a Box Office Manager with passion for the performing arts and a commitment to customer service excellence. The candidate will enjoy being a primary contact person with Pacific Opera patrons, stewarding their experience through the audience journey and developing productive relationships that increase customer retention, acquisition, and upgrades. The successful candidate demonstrates impeccable skills in working with the public, including a positive attitude, flexibility, and the ability to listen to concerns and resolve problems creatively. They will provide timely reports and customer feedback, and participate in strategy development and implementation. Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, the Box Office Manager is integral to shaping, measuring, and influencing the efficacy of work being done to engage audiences. The successful candidate will be a highly collaborative team player who effectively communicates internally and externally. They will be skilled in subscription campaigns, single ticket campaigns, group sales programs, and audience engagement programs and have the capacity to develop procedures and systems for accuracy, efficiency and productivity to deliver desired outcomes. They are a relentlessly curious professional, keenly interested in pursuing best practices in research and data analysis to inform all tactical and strategic decisions.



  • Responsible for creating an environment that runs smoothly and ensures patron satisfaction with all ticketing experiences.
  • Using ticketing database (Tessitura):
  1. Set up performances, special offers, special registrations, weekly / daily sales reports, and analytics dashboards
  2. Allocate seating and control inventory for maximum customer service and revenue potential while maintaining accurate account records
  3. Process and issue single tickets and subscription tickets – sales, exchanges, reprints
  4. Manage and issue complimentary tickets and gift certificates
  5. Develop customer segmentation for contextualized communications strategies
  6. Generate marketing lists to support marketing efforts
  7. Oversee accurate data management with internal and external colleagues
  • Manage relationship with Royal & McPherson Theatres Society box office services.
  • Manage single ticket, subscription, and group sales, including organization and dissemination of outreach information to schools and special interest groups.
  • Manage Community Preview, 30 & Younger, Student Rush, and Ticket Access Program (TAP) initiatives including promotion, communication with schools / partners / members, and ticketing.
  • Provide accurate and timely daily sales reporting and cash reconciliation to Director of Finance.
  • Oversee and support the work of the Box Office and Development Assistant, as well as event hosts, patron service callers, summer students, and volunteers as needed.
  • Be present at performances to manage sponsor and media tickets, seating and box office issues.
  • Manage telemarketing campaigns by overseeing external firm preparation, leads management, and daily sales processing and issue support.
  • Conduct regular audience and market research, collecting and archiving customer feedback.
  • Communicate research findings, attendance and sales data through regular reporting.
  • Demonstrate the ability to balance multiple projects, meet deadlines and communicate effectively in a fast-moving environment that requires flexibility.
  • Handle all transactions with attention to detail, discretion and security, and manage confidential information with professionalism.
  • Provide general reception and administration assistance as needed to support the needs of the organization, providing a warm & congenial welcome to all who visit the Baumann Centre. 


Skills, Knowledge and Education

  • Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada either by being a Canadian citizen or Canadian Permanent Resident.
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in sales, marketing, communications, or arts administration, and a minimum 1 year of experience in box office or related field.
  • Experience with box office, ticketing, and subscriptions – creating practices and procedures for pricing, ordering, and selling tickets for optimum sales results. Knowledge of Tessitura or other CRM advantageous.
  • Highly developed customer service and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Accuracy and ability to problem solve and remain calm under pressure.
  • High level of computer proficiency, including MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and Teams, as well as the ability to work with complex databases and design reports, social media applications, and relevant digital tools.
  • Willingness to work in a small team-based administrative setting.
  • Knowledge of not-for-profit and arts an asset.



Salary range: $50,000-$55,000 (negotiable) annually plus health benefits and RRSP matching contribution. The position requires some work on evenings and weekends. Start date is August 2022.
