Area Fleet Manager

Victoria, BC

At GFL, we pride ourselves on our leading-edge fleet and equipment line that is meticulously cared for and regularly maintained by our Fleet Maintenance team. We are currently accepting applications for an Area Fleet Manager who will work closely with all members of the Fleet Maintenance division to oversee and assist with the day-to-day maintenance and repair of the diverse equipment within GFL’s fleet. The Area Fleet Manager will be responsible for leading the safety program within the region and will ensure that safety continues to be at the forefront of all daily activities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the safety culture within the area and ensure compliance with all safety standards, policies, and procedures
  • Assist with establishing time standards and productivity measures within maintenance shops
  • Consistently monitor and report on fleet utilization and downtime
  • Work with local management to streamline completion and approval of large repairs
  • Assist regional management with capital (replacement, maintenance, and growth) plans
  • Mentor and support internal shop on day-to-day operations
  • Manage provincial apprenticeship programs
  • Negotiate & nourish 3rd party fleet vendor relationships
  • Audit DVIR reporting and ensure all noted deficiencies are dealt with accordingly
  • Work with regional management to ensure PM compliance is current and consistent
  • Ensure M5 and other fleet programs are fully utilized within the area
  • Manage area specific fleet related Invoice entry, review & approval
  • Initiate fleet additions, transfers, and disposals with asset management
  • Assist with monthly fleet P&L reporting and yearly budget planning


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Journeyman Certificate or equivalent experience
  • Experience with the CVIP Motor Vehicle Inspection Program
  • Class 5 Drivers License with a clean drivers abstract required, 1A or 3A Driver’s License preferred
  • Strong Mechanical and troubleshooting abilities on a wide range of machinery and equipment
  • Experience with team management and mentoring
