Accounts Payable Clerk

Serving the Justice and Public Safety Sector (JPSS), the Corporate Management Services Branch (CMSB) strives to provide excellence in corporate services and partner in the outcomes of both the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Public Safety & Solicitor General. CMSB provides central corporate services to all staff and branches/programs in the JPSS. We lead the preparation of budget submissions and financial reporting, and provide oversight, progress reports, and expert advice while performing day to day functions for our clients related to finances, strategic human resources, facilities (including Shared Services), and corporate risk and security.


The Accounts Payable Clerk works under the general direction of the Finance Manager to process Accounts Payable and other financial transactions by verifying the origin of expenses and confirms with client branch staff and vendors that goods and services were provided, the position also processes journal vouchers, purchase cards and business account transactions, creates spreadsheets and performs other related duties. Building and maintaining excellent relationships with clients and partners, this position is the first point of contact in providing efficient and effective service.


Job Requirements:

  • Grade 12 graduation or equivalent GED.
  • Experience with financial transactions, reconciliation and accounts balancing techniques.
  • Experience coordinating a variety of financial and administrative functions in an office environment.
  • Experience working in a high volume, result-oriented environment.
  • Experience with computerized spreadsheet, database, and word-processing applications.


Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Post-secondary course work in bookkeeping, accounting or financial administration.
  • Six (6) or more of months accounts payable experience.
  • Experience with government accounting, financial and administrative systems (CAS or equivalent), policies, procedures and practices.
